Skull Kitty Blanket - and Machine Binding on BOTH Sides

I'm teaching myself how to machine bind the front AND back of quilts... previously I have machine sewn the binding to the front of the quilt and hand sewn the binding on the back. It works just fine, but it takes FOREVER. And as my sewing schedule begins to increase I can't take 5 hours to sew the binding on one quilt. 20 mins is much better. But, like everything else in life, it takes practice. So I decided to make a quick kitty blanket to test out my sewing on. I will be making another one with the same fabric now that I've used this one as my experiment (my cats will be the lucky recipients of this treasure).

This kitty blanket is made with one of my favorite skull-themed fabrics with roses and hearts, and the backing is a thick, fleece with girlie skulls on it. It has batting in the middle and is really soft.

Now onto finishing Sam's quilt! I have promised to hand it off to her on Sunday... and one does not promise something lightly to a 3-year old. I'll post photos of it soon - it's all done except the binding.

Kitty Hammocks for Local Shelter

So I'm making Kitty blankets and hammocks for my local animal shelter and they are coming along, although they are not receiving the majority of my attention. I've got a lot going on in my life right now, and don't have enough time to dedicate towards all the sewing projects I want to do.

But bit by bit, some things are happening.

Here are some photos of the ones I've dropped off to caged kitties recently. They are made out of heavy denim or home decor fabric on the bottom, two layers of batting in the middle, and a thick flannel or fleece on top.

Enjoy kitties!

Animal Themed Cat Blankets

So I made a kitty blankie a while ago for my cats (see earlier post) and it has been a HUGE hit. The 3 cats literally rotate who gets to be on the blanket.

So I decided to make some more and sell them. And last night, as I was finishing the binding on one of them I had the other two unfinished blankets next to me on the couch and this is what happened.

Remmy got on the old blanket and Eskimo got on the new ones.

Then there was a battle of who got the new real estate.

I think these might be a hit, if my cats are any indication at all.

I'm still finishing the binding on this one, but you get the idea.
