Bib for a 1-year-old

my friend's son's birthday party is tomorrow and i made him something special, but then i thought, hey, there's this bib pattern i've been meaning to try out- you can buy it here:

at JCasaShop on Etsy.

and so i whipped one out tonight. it took longer than the suggested 1/2 hour but i think the result was good and it was simple enough that i can see making many for my own baby and for presents for others in the future. you can use one solid piece of fabric or do a patchwork like this, as the pattern creator suggests.

anyway, i hope he and his parents like it! it was fun to make as things are when you can choose fabrics for someone.

Why Does the World Exist? A book to read.

i can't wait to read this. it looks fascinating.

Why Does the World Exist?

the concept that nothing annihilated itself so the universe came into being? amazing.

i'm a philosophy fan, in particular existentialist query and where it intersects with physics. so cool. can't wait to read this, hopefully with a glass of wine!

More floor cushions for wee ones

so i just finished making two more floor cushions for two different friend's kids. it's so much fun to make these because, unlike quilts, i can make them in about a day and get them done! quilts are much more personal can be customized in fun, interesting ways, but they take a long time.

so here are photos of the finished products. i'm off to make a couple more and hopefully some cat blankets for my local shelter and then maybe a quilt for the baby i'm about to have any second. we'll see if he lets me get that far! i'm about 9 1/2 months pregnant and get soooo tired so easily, but watching tv and sewing is kind of my happy place right now.

again, i got this pattern from Living with Punks.

A baby quilt for little Liam

My dear friend was pregnant last Fall and I made her baby a quilt for her shower. We didn't know the sex at the time, so it was made with that in mind. She and her husband are nature lovers and her favorite color (and the color of the nursery) is yellow. I made this quilt after coming home from work on a Friday night in 7 hours, got up early the next morning, and got on a train to her shower. It was definitely worth it! My husband designed the quilt label. I asked him to draw a cartoon squirrel and I just love what he came up with (he got a MA degree in art...I didn't).
