Beginning Robot Coasters... not as easy as one might imagine!

I love them. Very cute. Getting the batting in the coaster is a bit tricky, but once that's done it's a lot of fun.

I could make pretty much anything out of this fabric and like, I think.

Kitchen towels for us - Garden Friends

I finally made something quickly yesterday for us - three nice kitchen towels with the new fabric "Garden Friends" by Jay Carroll which I love.

Robot Hand Towels!

I LOVELOVELOVELOVE this fabric. Trefle Robots in blue by Kokka (Japanese designer). It's not cheap, but I love it and I'm hoping other people will too. I made a couple of hand towels for the bathroom out of it (and one for me and my husband). Awesome! I'm putting them up on Etsy.com immediately. And then back to the sewing board.

And a Pinwheel

I love how simple and playful this block is. I will definitely be using it again.
It took me a long time to decide which fabrics to use for this one... but I finally decided on the blue and the "main" fabric, Juicy Jungle by Alexander Henry. I think it looks good.

These photos are first the unsewn blocks, then sewn.

The Card Trick

is sewn.

It's a cool block. Once again, my sewing needs some practice, as you will see in the photos. The fabric, however, looks amazing and I think it will look good in the overall quilt. I tried to fix the corners of the "cards" to match up perfectly, but I think I just need to practice doing this block. The first couple of times I have done any block it looks wobbly and this is no exception. It looks good enough to proceed though, I think.

I am really excited to get onto the next two blocks - the Sawtooth Star and the Pinwheel. I haven't yet decided whether to use blue and white fabrics in the Pinwheel to again reference the Greek flag or whether to use this bubble fabric that is used in the Card Trick - I love it! And I want it incorporated as much as possible. We'll see!

Zoe's Baby Quilt - in the works

So I have started Zoe's baby quilt and am having fun working on the blocks. I'm trying out a block I've only done once but love - The Card Trick. So far it looks okay, but I'm not done sewing it and anything can happen when I'm trying to get seams to match up.

Here are some photos of what I've done so far. I'll be working on the rest of the blocks today.

A cold, wintry day in New York

Is there a better time for sewing than Winter? I don't think so. One of the things I love about sewing and quilting is the homey feeling I get from creating something comforting out of scraps. There is never a time when I'm more in the mood to make a cup of Earl Grey, put on the jazz station and start a new project than a cold, wet, Winter day. And today fits that description.

I just returned from Manhattan after an appointment and doing some errands. While I was in "The City" I happened to be around the Empire State Building and saw that a number of police and emergency vehicles were in front of it. I snapped a couple of shots on my iPhone as I nervously continued on my way to a store near there. For some reason I thought it was worth capturing. By the time I had gone to the store and come out, all the vehicles were gone. It always amazes me how quickly the landscape of NYC can change.

Happy 2009 and the latest tea towels!

So for Christmas I made a few gifts on commission for people, as well as for family (and forgot to take pictures of them... doh!)and finally took photos of my Dad's finished quilt!

So here are some of them. Some more superhero tea towels (the last of that fabric, such a sad reality).

And some more Texas tea towels for a good friend of mine who is also from The Lone Star State.

Some tea towels with another fabulous fabric the "Nico" print that is also out of production. Oh, how I would have bought tons more if I'd realized how precious it was...

And the photos of my Dad's quilt. I quite like this one.

Happy New Year to all! I can't wait to get back to the cutting board, iron, and sewing machine starting tomorrow. I've got a lot lined up that needs to get done. Beginning with Zoe's baby quilt.
